Apart from the fun the German shipyard group took advantage of the Business.Run for a special action which put in the focus the team spirit and solidarity that shipbuilding requires. A group of six apprentices, journeymen and management started the race together wearing typical shipyard clothes –safety shoes and helmet – just to finish the 4.5 km together as a group with a balanced and coordinated race pace.
"At first I had to smile a little bit about the idea, but afterwards I can say that it was a great experience. We didn't set a time limit in advance - it was more important for us to act as one team and thus also pull the weaker ones along. We managed that very well", Marvin Schmidt, apprentice at GERMAN NAVAL YARDS KIEL, comments enthusiastically on the joint run and adds: "Just like in our daily work at the shipyard, we achieved our goal through good teamwork! This achievement was rewarded by the organizers with a special prize for the "best costume".
Jan Paul Meinardus, also an employee of the Kiel shipyard, is also content with the sporting commitment of his colleagues: "As a passionate runner, I am very happy to take over the organisation of our two-shipyards-running-team. In recent years, we have not only been able to increase our personal best times, but also the number of participants has been growing steadily. The support of our management board of NOBISKRUG and GERMAN NAVAL YARDS KIEL enables us to participate in further running events in Kiel and Rendsburg this year. That motivates us and equally promotes the solidarity of the shipyards’.
Beyond the takeover of registration costs and supply of run jerseys, the managing directors Dr. Bertram C. Liebler, NOBISKRUG GmbH, and Mr. Jörg Herwig, GERMAN NAVAL YARDS KIEL GmbH, showed their appreciation for the commitment of the employees by offering a catering on board the “HANSEKOGGE” to the participants. Especially for this occasion, the ship moored at the pier of the “Reventlou-Brücke” of the Kiel Fjord and served the two-shipyards-team as a base camp during the company run. As sponsor of the historic Cog replica, the German shipyard group maintains a good relationship with the "HANSEKOGGE" association.
